Artist Statement

This web site traces my life as an artist. Born in 1930, I started making art seriously in 1948 and have been at it ever since. Now at my time of life, I wanted to step back and get an overview of what subjects, material, and methods have engaged me during this long journey.

Also an important part of this presentation, for which I’m extremely grateful, are the good friends and brilliant writers who over the years have contributed essays and poems in response to my work. I’ve included them in the website under Poems and Essays: Molly Bendall, Brenda Hillman, Carol Muske, and David St. John–wonderful poets–and Dorothy Gallagher, Selma Holo, Frances Lerner, Tom Lutz, and my husband Leo Braudy with insightful and thoughtful essays.

I’ve arranged the sections in several different categories: two sections of Early Work, Subjects (portraits, landscapes, etc.), Mediums (watercolor, plaster, photos, etc), and the shows I have had over the years with specific themes (Film Noir, Breaking Light, etc).

One gift of the invention of the internet is the opportunity for me to bring together the artistic work of a lifetime in what I hope is easy access. Enjoy your visit!
